Situated in the heart of Romford and directly opposite Romford train station, this project provides 124 bedrooms arranged over 8 floors above an existing retail unit.  With a very tight and complicated site arrangement the hotel rises up behind a retained Art Deco façade providing a contemporary reinterpretation of the retained façade’s vertical bay arrangement. 

 

The new build comprises a series of vertical bays with a combination of light and dark grey rainscreen panels, each bay providing a deep recess to emphasise the verticality of the retained façade.

 

Pedestrian access is via The Battis, a pedestrianised street linking the hotel on one side and the train station on the other.  Internally, hotel front of house accommodation is situated at 1st floor level above the existing retail unit.  A contemporary open plan reception and lounge/bar facilities are oriented to the front corner providing aspect over the primary South Street and also activating the façade to allow interest from South Street itself.
